Is there an optimum number, will extras just corrode away anyway?

The more the merrier, AFAIK. They just erode more slowly if you have a lot of them.

I can remember reading somewhere that too many can cause as many problems as not enough.

Can't remember the details though and as my new boat has 15 of the things I hope it's a high number!
