You see, that's clearly not stated in law and I have no idea why the RYA is going beyond the law in its advice. I'd like to know who an why.

I can’t comment on Scottish Regulations or guidance, it’s a struggle just to keep up with the situation in England.

Would a reasonable excuse for staying overnight on your boat be that it is of less risk to others than travelling home?

Probably not in that you commenced the journey to your boat in the expectation of not returning home. Difficult to prove either way. Under a 100 mile round trip, problems happen, but you would probably win. 100 miles each way and you would probably lose . Pay your money n take your chance as they say.

As a large number of law makers and law enforcers have been complicit in these laws being ignored, at best, and abused at worst, with some even condoning violence and the destruction of property, I fail to see how they can issue FPNs or prosecute staying overnight on a boat in a quiet anchorage whilst maintaining their dignity.

And now single people can go off and live with someone else these laws are looking ever more ludicrous and nothing more than infantalising the population. Its not for the State to regulate our lives in such detail. The NHS was protected, its no longer under threat, lets get back to being adults.

Is this when overnight stays will be allowed in Marinas?

My relaunch is Monday and I’m just debating whether I load enough sufficient gear to day sail or go the whole hog and put the full, overnight, cruising gear onboard.

I've made a provisional booking at a campsite for the end of July. The owner has been advised that she will be able to open from July 4th but she's only taking provisional bookings and no deposits until she knows for sure. There will be no toilet or shower facilities open. If we can stay in our own van from July 4th then boats will have to be the same.

Policy should be based on infection rates, not death rates. Infection rates are heading down. The recent scare in the SW was caused by a load of of false positives.

We heard something similar from a campsite in Northumberland where a Vantage Neo owner's rally was cancelled. However the owner said she was under pressure from locals who didn't want an influx of visitors - that was about 3 weeks ago.

My Sister has a significant birthday in mid July. We are resurecting the plans for a birthday dinner on the basis that restaurants may be open on 4th July and at least campsites should be open even if no other accomodation is available.

In what way? I don't want it when or if, I want it now.

I want to know why if the Anglers Trust has taken legal advice and given the OK for night time fishing, we can't overnight.

That's why I wanted to know specifically what they had asked for and done. Download here. I would have thought the RYA had much more clout IF it was thought to use it.

Where the government bundles in sailing with watersports, there is no mention of an exclusion.

All the RYA website says is it would take a court to decide "reasonable excuse", so why aren't they?

I said in my view they were effective in getting watersports and boat visits allowed on a "day trip" basis. They worked hard to do that. Now we are talking about the next step.

For starters, I am a total Lockdown sceptic. I see no evidence that lockdown has reduced deaths or infections more effectively than banning mass events, pubs and restaurants, and getting most city workers at home so they avoid the Tube. So I agree with you we should be allowed to start staying on board.

However the parallel wit angling is invalid. The reason for "no overnight stays" is not just that transmission is considered a risk in terms of shared spaces e.g. campsite loos. It's that it puts a cap on our ability to travel the county and spread infections. Now I reject the whole premise, but given the premise is accepted, we should argue within reason. Angling overnight is unlikely to be something you drive the length of the country to do; yachting overnight might be.

Don't get me wrong I am all for lifting the ban and have asked the RYA to push for it. But you have to accept that overnight stays go with more propensity to travel longer distances.

Looking at the wind forecast (southerly) and tides (neaps) I could have a cracking sail down to Studland on Sunday afternoon, drop the hook for a nice dinner and sleep (I sleep best at anchor) have a cracking sail first thing Monday (still southerly).
