I went to my gas supplier this morning to get a refill for a Calor 4.5kg butane cylinder. £45. I noticed that you can get a 7kg bottle for £6 less and a 15k one for £64- more than 3x the gas for another 20 quid. Is this the most egregious rip-off or have I missed something?

I refill my own 3.9kg Propane cylinders. For ease of handling, I use a 13kg donor, so not as cheap as it could be if I used a larger cylinder.

Cost me £20.00 for the connecting pipe, each refill costs £12.00 ish.

Calor are desperately trying to get rid of the small bottles, To this end they are restricting numbers available and are jacking the price.
This was true a few years ago but not any more. They replaced the whole supply of 4.5 Butane bottles and these are now widely available again.

OP your supplier is ripping you off, these should be £33 I believe.

The going rate for a CampinGaz 907 (2.7kg) is nearly £70 on the Solent. Or £25 in France.

You were robbed. I paid £33 in East Loch Tarbert for a 4.5kg Calor bottle a few days ago.

Butane is about 36 euro per 13kg here, from Carrefour. I top off my Camping Gaz from them, along with a plastic 6 kg bottle destined for the boat. No corrosion.

Out of interest, I have been on bottled gas for cooking the last 50 yrs, both propane and butane, one gets used to it and transferes

Who is selling 907 camping gas at £70 . I was shocked when my solent supplier put the price up to £50

I was told Camping Gaz bottles are taken back to France for refilling, hence they are more expensive than Calor Gas. The Camping Gaz 907 refill should be about £40 for most people, but in the extremities of the UK transport costs may be added especially if they require a ferry journey like to the Orkneys or Shetland Islands.

Last time I looked properly and got the calculator out (a year or two back) Calor pricing worked out at a fixed fee of (from memory) about £34.50 regardless of size, plus about £0.50/kg for propane. Stuff that for a lark - I bought a refill hose, it's easy peasy to do.
