Buying chain

A Kong connector onto a shackle then onto the anchor can capsize and create a 90 degree load on the connector. Vyv's arrangement is better, I think.
I had fitted a swivel this way to a new boat but I have just removed it. In my case, the bow roller and windlass are some distance apart. I am not sure it's needed.

I wouldn't bother with a swivel, unless you find it's a problem. I don't have one, and it never seems to be a problem.

It's DIN766A which I believe is grade 30.
I have bought from this firm a number of times and found them excellent suppliers. Anchor chain I bought looked good to me but not tested it in any way.

DIN766 specifies the dimensions. Grade 30 specifies the strength, which is largely dictated by the composition. DIN 766 chain is available in Grades 30, 40 and 70 quite widely, but there are also more obscure Grades, such as 50.
 
Dunno really. But I had 40 metres on the 24-footer, and was thinking bigger boat = more chain. It's always nice to know you have plenty available.

It's true that it's nice to know you have more, 40 metres should do you nicely, it will also save 20 odd kilos from your bow.

Bigger boat = bigger chain, not necessarily longer :)

The times you do want extra you can get 30 metres of warp spliced on the end and use that, but I doubt you will ;)

You'll spend more time sailing, than anchoring in strong winds in deep water, so optimise your boat to that. I guess you already have a windlass which is 20-30 kg extra already? So save the weight (and the money), 40 metres should be more than enough :)

Very prompt reply to my question which I was impressed with.

I have placed several orders with Stuart's company. Each one has been supplied on time and 100% correctly. I can't say that of any other online chandler I've tried.
It's a pity his range is a bit limited.
 
This has been my solution to the lateral load on swivels problem. The three links are 10 mm, although two would be enough.

Is that a Kong 6-8mm SS swivel between the two different sizes of chain ?

I've just had my 50m of 3/8" chain and a 35lb CQR re galvanized for a shade over £200. B E Wedge in Willenhall, job done in 5 days.
