Wading through all the hot air in the advert's description, the overuse of word "turnkey" has me moving swiftly on to the next advert. Have I got that wrong? Thought not!

Turnkey is a valid term to describe a product delivered. It implies every thing is ready to go. Of course any term is abused by salesmen. Hardly a surprise. if you are talking about a sail boat you would never find everything supplied to your satisfaction. ol'will

Look for someone who's giving up sailing. Our first boat came compete with everything, including cutlery and crockery.

I'm a great believer in not buying absolutely new boats and cars ....

Boats sold near new are usually after seller has equipped the boat ... so you gain more gear ... like cars - a model has a ranged price and whether it has gold fittings etc. makes very little difference.
Cars - those niggly first year things are usually sorted.

In my opinion, yes you have got that wrong. By the broker advertising a boat as turnkey and you discover it isn't, you're in a strong bargaining position. If it is turnkey, even better 🙂

I remember a buyer asking why I wasn’t including everything with the boat..and the broker telling him that I will be needing it all for my next boat..the buyer found that a reasonable explanation and bought the boat.
So, I have to agree with others and buy a boat from someone who is swallowing the anchor..not only do they not want the gear but they probably have a shed full of stuff they (and their wife) would be happy to see gone…also, the last boat is the one that they finally got right after a lifetime of buying boats

When I bought Snapdragon 23 .... guy was pushed by his wife to sell and get driveway clear again. Plus the garage that had loads of stuff to go with it. I ended up buying boat at less than 1/2 asking price .. with 3 Seagull outboards .... 5 anchors incl a grapnel .... plus loads of other gear - it took literally the whole boat to carry all the gear !!
