Afternoon all,

Looking to refine the domestic side of the boat for the wife and one of the things she has asked me to look into is making the freezer or fridge thermostat better. At present we have a single standard metal probe thermostat that is fed through the interior side of the fridge to the cold plate at the back. This also has the wires that run from the thermostat to the compressor that is under the stairs with the wires all being hidden etc as you would expect.

Is there a remote thermostat that you can place in the fridge or freezer and set the temperature and then it communicates wirelessly with the receiver unit that I would locate next to the compressor, therefore avoiding the need to dismantle all the galley woodwork etc to replace the exisiting and slightly temperamental thermostat? Aware that the temp probe part would have to be battery powered and likely the receiver unit also.

We have wireless temperature displays for the fridge and freezer so just wondering if there is anything like I describe?

Ideally you could set up the temperature display to activate the compressor as a thermostat. However that probably would be difficult to get in to internals of temp readout. As an option you could use one of the cheap remote control transmitters (key fob) and receiver. The key fob I have ( for controlling a pump) has one button for on and one for off. I think the tiny 12v battery would go flat if it were set up to always transmit when compressor needed. Would need a bit of electronics to provide an on and off pulse to transmitter. Receiver has a relay and is no problem as it runs on 12v supply. Remote Control Relay 12V for sale | eBay All a bit ricky to sort out but possibly doable. ol'will

Thanks for the replies and all I am wanting to do in reality is replace the existing built in and hard wired thermostat without having to do a lot of dismantling etc
