Hello I have also posted this on Facebook page but wanted as much advice as possible.

I’m after a few pointers, I have a bukh dv20 in my yacht which was laid up last year before my ownership, it was running hot so pulled the t pipe out and cleaned it and it’s helped with cooling and runs well.

But have an issue which initially would only happen when hot when I put it into idle it would bog down to say 300rpm and wouldn’t pick up again, I adjusted the idle speed when it’s cold from 800 to 900 as per the manual but it’s still doing it and today did it when cold, then was a pain to start (which it hasn’t been before), I’ve pulled the primary filter off and it’s spotless also I’m at a bit of a loss.

Thanks

Air leak in the fuel supply allowing microbubbles to form. Not enough to stop the engine, but enough to cause your symptoms. Check every seal and joint, using coloured soft tissue (loo roll will do nicely). Allow the system to stand then wipe every joint and seal. Any moisture (fuel) present will darken the tissue. All joints must be dried before you start. That may show the leak straight away if you are lucky!

Thanks, do you think it wouldn’t run on revs though? As it runs fine when start and on revs.

Normally it's a bad idea for amateur mechanics to even look at the regulator/governor mechanism.
Some actual diesel engine experts say it's best if they don't know it even exists.

But eventually one has to ask the question, is the governor attempting to supply more fuel or not?
