OK. I am just getting divorced and worrying about my business going bust! So when I have nearly nothing left I need to sail off into the sunset (btw this is a bit tongue in cheek before you ring samaritans on my behalf.....)

So the budget is not very much. Let's say 30k and see if this can be done. Your criteria are:

About 32-35 feet. Small as possible. But I am a bit of a scaredy cat so mid Atlantic I don't want it to be too small! So safety first.
Not too smelly. But I suppose I can deep clean and replace the cushions. But that will have to be budgeted for. How much effort is it to get a manky Sadler 32 and stop it smelling??!!
Simple. No lift keel or any malarkey like that.
Needs to be a sound hull and rudder. No sinking.

So essential offshore gear:
Self steering.
AIS and/or radar? To avoid getting run down if i am single handing?
Nav gear can be 8 hand held gps's and hundreds of aa batteries and an ipad and some paper charts! (obviously I will cheat and have either iridium go or inreach or something for internet weather for passages as I am a wimp)
New standing rigging. Don't want the mast to fall down.
Is that it?

OK so looks to me like refit is 10k!!! Ahahahahaha. You laugh. But Shane Acton spent less.

So boat listing at 30k. Buying it for 20k half way through the apolcalypse.

If anyone wants to come with me they are welcome to apply for video interviews................................>!!

I am really only posting this to avert my attention for a few minutes from the doom and gloom. I sold my boat last year which now seems like a mistake.........................!!

Have you spoken to Boris am prepared to pay money if you take him.You might want to watch your back after a week or two though :)

I would forget makes and models, put your parameters in on the likes of Apollo Duck, Yachtworld, etc., see what comes up and treat each on it's merits...

I would hang on for a bit .

April 1st is not far away and we all be able have a damn good laugh.

I would forecast that the next instruction will be no sex, no sailing, no talking and
restricted breathing only .

Albin Vega 27 boats for sale - YachtWorld
If I had 30K i would get Albin Vega 27 and set it up nicely. A boat that size and you could buy the best of everything. You will usually find the owners are proper salts and everything is just so anyway, so you may find it hard to spend the extra. That Italian one for sale looks like it has a carbon fibre mast! Put a wind vane on it and a solar panel and away you go. Great thing is marina fees will be in the 8m range so you can stay in really nice places for almost free. The problem is if you get a bigger boat than 27 the bills will be considerably larger to get it up to spec.

A Sadler 32 Sadler 32 Used Boat for Sale 1983 | TheYachtMarket looks amazing! And a lot more roomy than the Vega. Forget everything I just said buy this one! If it smells take out the heads and the hoses and clean the holding tank. And refit.

Graham Snook's boat, he occasionally posts on here. Very smart.

There is one item on the boat that, if I had my time over again, I would have without any question..

.. Fully sprung mattresses.

That Italian one looks lovely. Great little boat for the money.

No clever suggestion to give you, other than pay respect to your attitude towards safety.
My idea of safety when mid Atlantic is that I'd rather be onboard a 747 than a triple 7.
But only because something else with 5 engines doesn't exist.... :giggle:

Boris is presenting classical analogies for our Virus infected world so the answer must be a Centurion 32. There is a well sorted one for sale with Essex Boatshed and a neglected one about to come on the market at North Fambridge. Well built excellent seakeeping boats.

Wow. He is a celeb. Looks amazing. You think I am too old at 51 to ask my mother for yet another loan??!! Ahaha haha. I am suffering from corona madness........

Actually, I am satisfied that Boris & his government are handling the situation in a responsible manner, given the circumstances. So I would prefer that you left him here to get on with it. I am certainly glad we do not have the corbinated chicken & D Abbot in charge
