Popped down to the boat today to test the outdrive lifted OK (it does) so thought I'd change the prop back to the original one (very long story)

Anyway, after a lot of struggling attempting to fit the cone far enough on to the shaft to allow the allen bolt in the end of the cone to connect with the shaft, I broke something.
A piece of thread appears to have broken from inside the cone assembly and the two parts now have a gap

Is the nose cone on a Volve 270 outdrive part of the drive? so, can I simply phone volspec on Monday and ask for a replacement nose cone?
And, another question. The prop that I was trying to fit is longer, so it sits further out on the shaft which is what gave me the problems. How would this prop originally have been fitted if it's longer?

EDIT: Sorry, can't get the picture to show for some reason, has something changed? anyway, the link works.

Look at the propeller shaft parts here http://www.keypart.com/volvo-penta/single-propeller-sterndrive/270

photo looks like two parts that you have partly separated rather than broken.

Propeller cone and spacer for standard hub props ?????

Something odd about the way your "bucket" is generating codes

Superb, thank you.
Looking at the parts list, it looks as if the separated part is a spacer, so I may be able to remove that and fit the cone straight onto the larger prop. The spacer is connected, quite solidly, to the cone and there appears to be a spring of some sort that connects them. I shall get googling.

EDIT: It appears that there are along and short hub versions of prop available, if I'm lucky, the broken thread will be on the spacer that I might not need. Fingers crossed...

Even more confused now.
The spacer separates from the cone (its bent because I didn't realise it unscrewed from the cone) but the the thread on the spacer fits the shaft, but the thread in the cone is too large and it just rattles around on the shaft.
Also, the spacer has pieces of the cone stuck to it as if it was never a separate part?
Any ideas anyone?

Looks like a helicoil.

I'd agree - I think that somebody has repaired the thread with a helicoil and corrosion has caused the section of the nose cone to bind to the spacer and it has snapped off, possibly because the walls are thinner after the repair. The picture on the keypart website that Vics linked to shows the nose cone appears to protrude through the spacer.
