i have a fair bit of bother getting the anchor up because windage makes the boat veer off to one side or the other. once the chain is running more than about 20 degrees off the centre line i have trouble with it either having too much friction or jumping off the roller. in a blow this gets to be a real headache.

what i really need is a bow roller with a vertical roller either side of the chain so i can go on winching without having to use the engines to keep straightening up all the time.

anyone know of such a roller?

Try Crayside marine they seem to do loads of fabrication of this sort of thing.

Is your roller on one hull , or in the middle of the forebeam or at the centre beam?
This problem is probably worse on multis, but in my case patience pays.
Raising a reefed main first may help.

at present it's on the main beam. plan to move it to the forward beam this season which will help a bit.

D.W.Davies of 7B Mulberry Road, Canvey Island, Essex SS8 0PR,
tel/fax 01268 684473 will make anything in stainless steel including
stemheads. I suppose if you drew the outline of your forward beam
say on some hardboard and supplied three rollers you could have
what you want. I think I'll have one too!
Have you seen the articulated ones with two rollers? I think they reduce
friction quite a lot.
You can buy a genoa sheet lead with side rollers, one of these could
be mounted on a plate to fit your forebeam.
