Hi I am looking to buy a powerful Torch with a wide angle beam, it needs to be water proof. The main uses will be returning to my Marina berth after dark or finding my way back to my boat on the dingy.

I don't want a fixed spotlight on the boat so what is the best option, any suggestion's please.

Thanks

Steve

I shoot a lot at night.
On top of my rifle I use a tactical torch with a red LED. This has an adjustable beam and is immensley powerful. On spot the beam will travel (not quite) like a laser, with several hundred yard pin point reach. On flood it gives a warm, powerful glow out to about 75 yards and +/- 30 degrees either side.
The red LED serves two purposes... the bunnies etc aren't bothered by it and secondly it protects my own natural night vision. It protects it very well!
HOWEVER, if you use it on the water, be aware that it obviously could confuse other boaters being red and secondly it can make all buoys etc look red!

I also have another torch which I use all of the time. This one stays in my pocket and comes out for "picking up" when a brighter, white light is needed. It's this torch which may be particularly useful to you.
The size of a chipolata sausage and takes 1 x rechargeable 18650 battery it a truly immense little torch. Bright as a car headlamp in one tiny LED.

The first torch is also available with a white led, but is really rather pricey at about +/-£150.
It is called a Dereelight Nightmaster 800.
The second very small little fellow is a Klarus (the exact model eludes me) and the cost is about £56.

The investment in a really good torch is worth it.

Both torches come from www.taclight.co.uk

Edit to add:
They are both very weatherproof and taking quite a beating from me in the field, but I suspect they won't like actually dropping in the water so a lanyard would be a good idea.
