Maybe a bit off topic but are you sure the small block 350 mag will cut the mustard in that boat? The most popular motor before discontinued in the 2855 was the 7.4 only 310hp but 40% more torque than the 350. The 2858 I would imagine is heavier than the 285, add fuel, water, people, slime if marina based that 5.7 is going to be working hard. Wouldn't the 8.1 be a better choice and its fresh water cooled. The Bayliner owners club website had guys with identical 2855's some with the 350 mag and others with the 7.4 and the difference in performance was quite apparant especially at low planning speeds. Excuse me if you have already looked into this.
