just put my boat on line for sale at myboatdetails.com
found it very easy to input the details and the web site it produces is very good
i am trying to avoid the extortion of broker fees 6% to 8%
so thought it worth a try
i can recommend the system as it is easy to use as i am no techno expert
for information i have no connection to the site what so ever
anyone thinking of trying to sell take a look

Slight problem if you are looking for a motor boat,

THERE ARENT ANY!!!

And there are only four yachts.

Of course you wouldn't happen to be the owner of that web page would you as that would be blatant advertising?

Just been there, free until 15 December then £99 for two months. I think to compete against the printed mags they will have to pitch in at 50% classified rates to succeed i.e. the price needs to drop.

Anyhow it is well engineered and makes many established brokerage sites look amateur.

Hmm . . .

It does produce a nice site - but there's lots of other places on the web that are offering a very similar service for nothing.

Frankly I doubt very much if the site will succeed because it will almost certainly never have enough boats on it for it to be worth anyone's while paying it a second visit after their first disappointment. Even the sites that offer completely free advertising with photos find it difficult to attract a significant number of boats because there are so many of them.

Paid sites will only get custom if they have hundreds of boats and thousands of visitors, and pulling a site up by its bootstraps without a huge advertising budget is virtually impossible IMHO.

Anyway, hope you prove me wrong and your boat sells like the proverbial warm bakery product Alan.

Missing the point

I think you are missing the point, Webcraft. Its not just the smartest-looking, easiest-to-use web page builder. I don't think its trying to be a generic yachting portal. MyBoatDetails is a supplement to classified advertising, and not a replacement.

I used a prototype to sell my last boat. The key is that you get a unique URL to place at the bottom of your classified ad, e.g. www.myboatdetails.com/goldeneye
The aim is not to get viewers to the home page but to YOUR page.

With all the tired second-hand boats out there, how do you capture the attention of prospective buyers, without giving 8% to a broker? Well, this approach worked for me.
