Why do so many boat names end in "TOO"? Is it perhaps an unwritten rule or superstition not to have "Two", "2" or "II"? I have wondered about this for years and still don't get it.

Does anyone know the answer?

Can't say I've ever noticed it but Eric & Susan Hiscock's 'Wanderers' were simply numbered: II; III; IV; and V.

I suppose it's simply a means of keeping a name that you like when you buy a new boat.

I think there is an issue with Part 1 registered boat at least, in that, in order to call ones boat (eg) Lucinda Two; Lucinda 2 or Lucinda II, one has to have owned the original boat Part 1 registered as Lucinda, whereas "too" does not have the same numerical connotation.

What gets me is the way catamarans seem to think it mandatory to have some mention of double or two in the name; 'Seaing Double, Double Trouble, just about every b****y time.

The best one I've seen is 'Cooking Fat'...:)

There is a dinghy up on the Broads called 'Norfolk an' Good'. Thought that a trifle vulgar!!! In the same vane a boat down in Essex called King John, ohh, you work it out!

Not true. You are allowed to dispense with the '2' as long as you have a feline reference in the name ;)
