What would handle better. A 24ft boat with deep v or a 35ft cruiser with std hull. Not as deep v as a fairline type.
Will it bounce about everywhere or cut through the waves. 35ft of boat still needs to slow down to stop the slamming.

very difficult question, depends on who designed the hull for one thing! Plus the weight of the boat, engine power, drive, transom type etc etc etc.

you need to define handling. If its go cart fun, could well be the 24ft. If its regular F4+, the larger one will probbaly make for better long passages.

Comparing a 24ft with another 24ft the deeper V will certainly make a difference. Comparing 2 different length/ weight/ beam boats is very difficult.

Not much help then really.

a deep vee helps but it is all about centre of gravity in planning boats
I have seen 25 degrees deadrise bounce and seen 10 degrees with a deep forward section make all the difference

a Fairline is not particulary deep with an 18 degrees deadrise aft standard in there new models, and 15 in the old ones which where much more sea worthy
forward section is about 35 to 40 deg depends the Fairline model
for a 24 footer look for above 15 degrees aft and a check that the bow sections first third of the boat forward is deep and full

Thanks for replys so far.

Although i've been around boats for many years i haven't been on many different types. Current boat is a colvic 34 with a john bennett designed hull. Very spacious nice boat etc etc but sometimes slams. Am i going too quick for conditions may be sometimes.
I was just thinking in general.
I have a baby on board so F4+ are out of the question at the moment.

John Benetts hull are usually good with speed in high tens or lower 20s
how is your Colvic configured propullsion
shafts or stern drive, if shaft do you have tunned drives, where are the engines located etc etc
try to understand the lowest planning speed for bad weather handling and head seas
take it up from there and then add about 100 revs each time if it is handling well no slamming, as soon as it starts to slam lower by 100 and keep going at that speed

Boat has KAD44's on sterndrives.
I think i must be taking a rogue wave every now and then. It's not constant slamming. As you say I just slow down a bit and carry on.
thanks
