bluetooth wireless stream car radio

If the car radio has a bluetooth adapter built in then just pair the devices, Otherwise, would need to investigate whether it is possible to get a bluetooth transmitter which can be attached to the speaker outputs, assuming you can match the impedances.

Possibly simpler to replace the car radio with a version with built in Bluetooth adapter

Thanks for the response,
The radio has a sd card & usb facility( both of which I use) the idea of a Bluetooth adaptor was that I could also plug into tv to stream sound to cockpit.

You can buy bluetooth adaptors the would plug in to the USB port. However, beware that most of the cheap ones on Amazon do not work with car radios. The versions that work with car radios such as Tune2air cost about €200, so you may as well just buy a new radio with built in bluetooth. Also, beware that many car radios with built in bluetooth only work with phone calls - you may not necessarily be able to stream music.

It is best to buy dedicated marine radio like Fusion. They are so much better than car radios, with simple controls, no power drain when off, and just look better in a boat. Most aftermarket car radios are aimed at the yoof market to fit into their Vauxhall Asbos and so have gaudy ugly styling and are hopelessly complicated.

I currently have a standard car radio wired to cockpit speakers, what is the best way to connect it wireless to either speakers or headphones, would a 3.5mm jack adaptor work?

May I clarify whether you are trying to
(a) Take sound out of the radio to wirelessly stream to a bluetooth speakers or headphones or
(b) Take sound wirelessly from an external source (e.g. telly) and input it to an aux socket on the radio so that it can be played over the cockpit speakers?

And does your radio have a 3.5mm jack and is it for aux in or headphones out?

Ans. a. sound out to spk's or h/phones
second, 3.5mm jack. i'm fairly certain aux in, don't think h/phones out. (away from boat atm)

Then regrettably I can offer no advice. A headphone jack to bluetooth transmitter is straightforward. On board I have a bluetooth receiver plugged into my stereo's aux input so I can stream from my phone/ipad/laptop to my cabin or cockpit speakers. Sounds like what you are asking for is something which will take a 4 ohm speaker input and transmit it as bluetooth and I've not encountered one of those (nor has a brief google revealed one)
