I see the French fishermen have blockaded Calis this morning - they want more subsidy ( !!! ) for their fuel. Puts a fresh complexion on the Red Diesel debate

Subsidy? You mean they want to have the government collect less tax on their fuel? :)

Lets hope they win and put a coacj=h and horses through any question of the pretence of a single price throughout Europe.

I bet a fair few call in the channel islands now?

Facts are wrong as I understand them from French perspective ... amazing though isn't it ?

When French stand up for their perceived civil liberties the Brits say " Bloody French' , however us Brits take everything lying down (inappropriate to say up the .... but is what I mean)

IMHO we have nothing to whinge about until we actually DO something. Britain has become a nation of consultant whingers and hypothesisers. Vive La France.

I wish the French could see it from our perspective.
I am glad that i am not stucK on a ferry in the dock because someone is throwing their toys around.
Will their little tantrum hurt the French goverment? Will it heck, it will as usual hurt the british public ( trying to get in or out) and the Ferry companies who have it hard enough already.
What will they do next if they dont get their own way , Look at all the trouble & misery the French have caused the British is their fight for "Civil liberties"

If the French Navy cannot restore order we should send ours!
Vive La England !

Hey there's an idea for the red diesel campaign.

A few dozen Fairlines/Princess/Sunseekers/ etc/ etc., blockading Plymouth/Poole/Southampton/Portsmouth/Dover. If the French can do it!

Stupid English

Of course I agree !!

My point ( however well hidden ) was that they DO things not whinge endlessly. So what if they pick on the Brits? , They have learnt that the British press will pressurise Westminster and thereby get concessions.... Good on Them. It's how the French think ( please refer Descartes)

Re: Stupid English

I have to agree with you ... the red diesel issue itself shows how many Brits have become brain washed by succesive governments into accepting anything they decree ... we moan and its over. The French on the other hand are bloody minded about things and it the end they have power that they use for their own interests.

Mind you a few dozen boats costing millions of pounds between them blockading anywhere would just play into the spin merchants hands .... we would lose. I am totally convinced that we have to win the campaign based on the practical problems plus the fact that less tax will be collected.

Re: Stupid English

Jeez Paul

I agree .. total agreement . Also really pleased that you recognize " Double-chinned, all-too-rich, internet - booom, blah , blah' will not make it .

However at the end of the day , which strings ( apart from direct lobbying, which I would favour) do you honestly believe can win that argument?

Re: Stupid English

I think the main burden has to fallon the RYA and if they do a good job in explaining all the problems, the confused,, if any, objective and the lower tax yield that we can cjhange things. We can win if we care enough about the issues.
There are major practical problems that would have to be overcome to make any change to the status quo.

When did you last fish Gludy?

If the French fisherman have a dispute with the French government, let them take it up with the French government. Instead they blockade Calais which only effects British travellers and the British economy, and we have nothing to do with their grievance in the first place. I do agree with the earlier post that we British take too much lying down. We should take up arms against the French, we must have a spare nuke lying around somewhere.

You mean like we did in Iraq?

Sounds like good tactics to me

Oh dear , typical Brits. When no 'logical' answer respond with force as we can't cope with anything intellectual....

Get Real !!!
I can see it now!
Major publicity, thousands of boat owners agreeing to attend.
Three turning up "cos its raining" two backing out as a ferry approaches them, one standing fast (or cant he start his engine), quickly brushed aside by the harbour launch preceeding said ferry, cheers from the twenty or so owners who couldnt get their boats there (for what ever reason but would have done if they possibly could have) standing on the walland a successful protest claimed by all.

Come on England face the facts we are getting more and more to deserve a Nanny state. IABITBTT

All historical (wartime) problems have been caused by or related to the french for hundreds of years. They back out of a fight, they covertly supply weapons to our enemies, they ban our beef, fish, dairy produce, (maybe we should ban their letters?) they block their harbours, refuse landing rights to aircraft in need of help ehhhh - there will be laods more for sure - can't think of any more just now. The French have it spot on, if they dont like something they get off their lard and go for direct action.

The English should not complain they should either put up or shut up.

I disliked what was happening in the UK so I voted in the best way I could.

I LEFT.

I am now enjoying a very happy life on the costa del sol enjoying nice balmy evenings drinking champers whilst those back in good old blighty freeze there nadgers off.... Oh and I guess it is getting on towards darkness there. Still nice and light here and 25 degrees, yes 25 degrees. Occassionaly I check teh news to see how sad life is still there..

Oh and by the way, I can go and buy my diesel down in Gibraltar for 22p per litre as opposed to how much was it you are going to pay????

So those that can, do yourselves a favour and move your boats down to the Med. I bet you will get more use out of it and you wont have to moan about the weather.
But hurry berths are going fast as I think someone has already told a few people this.

Adios
