We had a similar conversation across Lyme Bay but there was no land in site or imminent end to the trip! She got over it and that has now become the benchmark
"It's a bit rough"
"Nothing compared to Lyme Bay"
"True"

Ours go more like
"Shall I have red berry fruits for breakfast?"
"Do we still have a white boat?"
"Yes"
"Then No..."

We used to have a boat at TEYC near Westcliff casino. My wife hates the Thames chop and even when we came round in June it was unpleasant overnight on that buoy and we left about 0700 on Sunday by which time the wind was NE - ideal for a trip to Bradwell bah /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'll let you know if we come again.

Yep it does get choppy out there, earlier this year I was tied upto the IYC buoy waiting for the tide May 7th. It was gusting 8 from the west over the rising tide, my boat was at right angles healing over eastwards from tide verses windage!

Have to say Roger I have had more comfortable time's trying to get a nap!

think we have all had a bit of the thames chop, this year heading from Ramsgate to the Medway on the outer route (we draw 2 mtrs) forcast was for squawls later managed to squawl at W7 gusting 8 for the whole of the flood and more. very un comfortable though did get a giggle as SWMBO tried a cpl of times to use the heads prob was it was rising and falling about 8 feet very quickly.

Went to listen to RKJ speaking at Canterbury a few weeks ago. He commented that everywhere in the world he went, the locals always said their waters were dangerous. "Thames Estuary", he said, "easterly gale and a spring ebb, one of the most dangerous places in the world!"

I was there too with Centaurpipedream! Always good to see a legend although I suspect that time takes away some of the concerns of the day - he made swimming under the boat a 1000 miles from land seem like a dip in the Ray at low water!

I did like his reply to the question "what should always take with you?" - "A sense of apprehension" I feel like that on the Blackwater sometimes! Who are you calling a wimp? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Tis one of the 11 Anderson 26's made....

[/ QUOTE ]

I was told by the owners club there were only 8, Tadpole sadly was the last to pop out of the mould, which is a bit odd as my sail no would make the eleventh boat! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The first was Amber (now moored in the Crouch) with the sail no 11, Tadpoles is no 21!

Re: Bit quiet here so here\'s a silly whereisit?

Heard on local radio there is a guy surfing off Gt Yarmouth at the same time as everyone is filling sandbags etc.

Is it just me or do others think the media have gone into overdrive to hype this up? Highest tide in 50 years - didn't think it was top of springs yet? I know there is low pressure and strong NWly which will make it higher, but had this happened at the top of the equinoctial (prob spelt wrong) springs in Sept couldn't it have been much worse?

Like almost everything thats reported, bird flu, asian flu killing thousands, etc etc to use an old government term.

Everything is sexed up to bejesus and I for one can not really understand why. Have we become so de sensitised to thing that it needs to be blown out of all proportions befor we pay any attention to it, or is it the media jostling for numbers /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

There seems to be more than a little confusion in the press re tides. Hope everyone is ok though.

I thought I recognised something about her (I've got an Anderson 22).

Seems to be the same story with the 22's. The first built was No.10, which is a yellow coloured hull and moored between the Blackwater SC and the lock at Heybridge. My yard number was 108, but number on the sail is 95.
