I read a book about one of the trips looking for the NW passage. The ship got to Newfoundland or thereabouts and sent a pinnace home with the news. Pinnace about 35ft. Then they sailed into Hudson bay, obviously thought they'd made it round, and got wintered in. They built a hut to overwinter, and sank the ship to save it from the ice. Next spring they found the ship beyond repair, so they broke it up and built another ship, even made a forge to make nails from axeheads. Sailed home. I think the word is 'indomitable'.Videos like that make me wonder how tough they must have been 100 years ago building boats like that.
Just like PBO thenI read a book about one of the trips looking for the NW passage. The ship got to Newfoundland or thereabouts and sent a pinnace home with the news. Pinnace about 35ft. Wish I could find the book again......
