While you soft Southern lot basked in the sunshine, we out West got soaked.

It rained and rained and rained and rained.
The average fall was well maintained.
When all the tracks were simply bogs,
It started raining cats and dogs.

After a drought of half an hour
We had a most refreshing shower.
Then most curious thing of all,
A gentle rain began to fall.

Next day was also fairly dry,
Apart from the deluge from the sky,
Which wetted the party to the skin,
After which the rain set it.

I've noticed that the uv sacrificial strip on my headsail is starting to take on a green tinge this "summer". It won't take much more rain before I'll be able to start growing watercress on it!

We had a great sail to Porthmadog on Saturday. 1st reef and 2/3 genny averaged 6kts all the way and nearly very nearly a straight line to the fairway. Sailed a fair bit up the channel under main alone doing 5kts. But wet cold and slightly miserable.

Sunday, pondered, rained all day, cold. Had guests on board who were going to sail back to Pwllheli with us. Got out to Borth-y-Guest and hit a mini squall. Dave Snelson was in front of us with all his new covers up bobbing about.

I looked at my crew who were getting drenched and looking slightly unhappy at the prospect of leaving in the weather. So we went back into Porthmadog and have left Top Cat on a very nice mooring for a week. I am going to try and find out if it is free this week /forums/images/icons/smile.gif.

Refer to my I am a fairweather sailor fred, had it been sunny there would have been no question about sailing back, great winds right direction. But heavy rain and cold, people make mistakes and things get broken.

This is the worst summer I can ever remember in the north west. How much is a Solent mooring (now I must be getting worried).

I noticed your boat was out when I squelched my way back in last night. I thought you'd gone off on a gnarly extended cruise despite the drippings from the sky. But I thought wrong, instead you were tucked up in Portmadog having a party round your Eberspächer.

I went on the club cruise to Aberdyfi, supposedly 7 boats, but when I arrived I found that everyone else had given up.

Getting back out over the Aberdyfi bar yesterday was an amusing exercise after it had been blowing onshore for 24 hours. Didn't take long to get home though, 16.4 knots at one point.
