Birdam Pool is reasonably priced due to poor access.
the lock is only available 3 hours per tide.
There is only room for one large boat at a time.
The lock has no power fill so you have to wait for the sea water to rise or the marina water to fill the lock so it is slow.
There will be many weekend when you can not come or go as you please.
If you return and have to wait for a queue there are no deep water waiting areas so you will have to dry for the next tide or wait at easthead.
If you are retired or never go anywhere then it may offer really good value. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Didn't know it had been taken over. I seem to recall Brian Peters saying he would sell Birdham Pool to be able to pay off the outstanding debts of the bankrupt Peters Opal....
Castle Marinas have taken over Royal Clarence Marina, Portsmouth. Birdham Pool has increased fees 22% this year (so I am told by the HM staff at Birdham).

My dad kept his boat there from 1972 - 1974 and he rarely went out in it back then, as it was such a pain and he lived just a half a mile up the road. Times haven't changed, it seems.
My 10m now costs me £3200 all in at Birdham - this is after a fairly healthy hike by the new owners. At that price, putting up with the inconvenience is more of a debate than it was a few years ago.
Akvavit Moody 38 (?Barry Higginson) was going to organise a berth - holders group re increased charges, 1% sales penalty, annual fees else 23.5% APR etc. Haven't managed to contact him by email. Anybody with further info please?` /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
