Hi guys,

the tachometer's lens on my Beta Marine control panel is badly cracked. Beta marine say they don't sell the lens as a spare part but can sell me a new complete unit for £126.

Does anyone know where i can get a replacement lens?

Thanks,
George

Several companies on the internet can supply acrylic discs cut to size for about £5 -£10 a piece. I used one of these discs a few years ago to replace the lens on a Wasp mechanical log.
I think I used a company called ‘simply plastics’.

Agree. I have used Simply Plastics and would recommend them. Recommend you get genuine Perspex brand of acrylic which has far better UV resistance than typical grades of acrylic which can discolour and craze in a few years of exposure. Clear Perspex Acrylic Round Discs

I have a Beta ABVW control panel complete with loom that has a serviceable tacho lens. I replaced it as it worked for start heat and stop but the tacho needle didn’t budge and some (can’t remenber which) of the system lights didn’t operate. I‘ve been meaning to fault find it and market it for yonks. Probs just a dodgy relay or/and a duff bulb. All the elements are available from Beta (and at a much cheaper price from any electrical supplier). But realistically I have too many higher priorities. Your’s for £25 posted.

Thanks i will bear that in mind, but should be sorted. Just been sidetracked recently by work and life! :)

A cheap and quick temp fix is to take a large blister pack and cut a disc of clear plastic out .... if the broken 'glass' still has some left in place - then glue around circumference the disc on top .... if 'glass' is not there and you can remove bezel - then use the disc and possibly cut a number of blister pack 'rings' to replace the 'glass' till you get permanent 'glass'

How did you get this solved. All of the lenses on my panel are cracked and have let in water,

I haven't attacked it yet but if there is an easy way to remove and replace maybe you have come across it..

Many thanks.

Another temporary fix ....

Screen Protector film for tablets / phones etc. Not only do they protect against scratches ... but in case of cracked glass - you can lay over carefully to 'seal' the glass ...

My Blackberry Z30 has a terribly cracked and even splintered screen. I laid Screen Protector on it - as to replace the screen is a shop job and more than phones worth ... that phone is now safe to slide finger across .. works fine ...

I was thinking of using lens tape (for fixing up cracked lenses on tail lights..) but thanks for that suggestion..

Hi Pandos, sorry for the slow reply. I actually took the tachometer apart. It has another lens and gasket internally. The internal lens was in good condition. I threw away the external lens and replaced it with the internal one. The internal one was a bit smaller in diameter if i remember correctly. To get over this i bought a sealant that is used in the auto industry because it can withstand high temperatures. I put sealant around the lens. The sealant forms a gasket when dry. Its been okay for a year so far.
