Beta Engine and Seaprop Saildrive

Anyone fitted this combination and have comment on perforamnce/maintenance etc. (particularly 20hp and Seaprop).

You might ask Tigger Too as he had one fitted, although 30hp. not exactly trouble free. My advice would be stick with Volvo or Yanmar or if you have a decent Volvo or Yanmar leg, attach a Beta to it if you prefer a red engine to a green or grey one!

I’ve had this combination from new, installed over 10 years ago. Have had several issues with the oil seals leaking leading to emulsification of the ATF fluid in the saildrive. First time it was sorted under warranty. Have had one of the ring bearings fail and that left me with reverse only. Fixing the issues involved lifting the boat out and in the case of the failed bearing meant moving the engine to get the saildrive out. Apart from these 3 incidents it has worked faultlessly.
