Could someone tell me the best way to join two lines of 6mm chain? I have done with a proper false link.....but... I am not sure.

That should be ok. If its the one with screw together fixing.
Cant think of another way except welding one in.
But like others have said, might not go round the gypsey.

The chain can be welded and still run through a gypsy.
The welder needs only to be careful and not leave alot of bead or a sloppy weld. The inside of the link can be
cleaned as well. If properly welded the link will be stronger than the chain.
I have the same concerns as I have intentions of joining two lengths of chain for my anchor. The results I have
found on my own research are as above.
