Beneteau Swift Trawler 37 - new

Brutal. I was measured at my marina (which seems a bit err inconsistent) but she wasn't lifted for CSI to bring their forensic analysis gear down.
It was done by laser. And you had to sign that you agreed with the results.... and would pay accordingly

My anchor is stored on deck, and yes the boat was measured, she just fits in 12m berth with less than 30cm to spare
The width is often the main problem in Med mooring....because that’s usually where the shortage of real estate is....especially as boats have grown fatter over the years. And of course some ports expect that the width also includes fenders...making it even fatter

We looked a a 35 before we bought our Hardy and whilst we liked it there was some degree of compromise on what we were looking for but I really didn’t like the idea of the saloon bulkhead on one side effectively being a big piece of glass. Probably absolutely fine in reality but a bit too much for my traditionalist instincts 😁

The 37 looks to be very nice and I share the view that Benetau have done great job of re-designing use of the same space and have addressed many of what we perceived to be the downsides of the previous design. I look forward to seeing one ‘in the flesh’ so to speak.

I think the ST37 is morphing into the Jeanneau Velasco 37F inside and out (that has twin Volvo’s), and losing the trawler vibe… at least the side walk with a bit of cover is still there, but the cockpit wind door is gone. Really need to walk around one to get a better idea though..

In the 34 there is a really nice dining table...beautifully made but ridiculously heavy....that needs two people to move it every time you lift the engine hatch....that table now lives in my basement
I made a custom teak table to replace the bulky original… much lighter and easily slides into galley for engine access…

I don’t know if they share a hull…which is not uncommon between Jeanneau and Beneteau…but since none are made for catching fish..they are lifestyle trawlers…a little bit of a commercial look and a bit more headroom. The new 37 is trawlery with the reverse slope windows…but less trawlery when they lost the derrick of the original 34.
I find trawlers and other faux work boats pleasing to my eye…and I roll up my non existent sleeves like a proper working sailor every time I’m abord 😃
But it’s all just personal taste

Interesting. I'll have to have a good hoof around one and see what's what. As I said before I've been fortunate to have a 34 and 35 close by so should have a half decent starting point. My friend who owns a 35 asked a good question regarding storage. With the layout change and to some degree squeezing more into the package, has it retained the storage of the 35.. I'm impressed by the amount of storage space in the 35. It's one of those things that you often overlook when being wowed on the display stand but in real life these more mundane issues become important. Will be interesting to see.

I don’t know the answer.....but it’s been my general observation that as models are improved, more storage is opened up as nooks and crannies are made useful.

I visited Cannes to see the boat in person - and I ended up signing up for one there and then. It should be delivered late next year.

I had been contemplating a 34 or 35 for quite some time, but I think the 37 has spot on improvements for our use (2 adults, 2 small children).

Improvements from our perspective:
  • Extra seating, with flip-up table, next to helmsman
  • Fixed dinette
  • Aft galley connected to the cockpit
  • Large fridge and freezer (best in class?)
  • Inverted windscreen (personal preference, but I like prefer that aesthetic)
  • Separate shower stall
  • Proper sliding cockpit bench
Things that I think are worse than the ST 34/35:
  • Single galley sink
  • Oil dip stick (on port side of engine) seems a bit more difficult to reach
  • Less space for saloon TV (although nice to hide it away when not in use)
Things we will be adding after delivery:
  • Aft anchor windlass
  • Bow pulpit with integrated ladder
It's going to be a long wait...

A delivery time of next year doesn’t seem that bad ,clearly if no euro funds held an exchange risk unless fixed in rate but I would have thought its fairly standard on new models. I guess you can also visit factory to see in build and suchlike which would be interesting pictures for future. Many congrats.

Thanks! I hope to be able to visit the factory sometime during the build - if so I'll definitely snap some pictures. 👍
I will keep an eye on the EUR exchange rate until delivery...

I don’t think it’s like Princess or something where you are encouraged to watch it being made...in fact it might not be constructed in France....perhaps you are more welcome on Beneteau’s Monte Carlo factory floor...I don’t know. I certainly was not invited. They do expect staged payments.
All in all you deal with the dealer

Congrats !....and don’t forget to book the next Swift Trawler tour....you will probably get the email...all the owners get together for a run...lots of eating and speeches. They are held in a different region each time so that everyone gets a chance to participate

When I bought new for a German boat in UK The contract was for a fixed price in £s and the dealer arranged a forward contract for the Euros. In earlier times I bought another German boat through a Greek dealer that was priced in DMs and I bought a forward contract to achieve a fixed price in £s. On both occasions currency fluctuations were greater than they are now and using forwards definitely saved a lot.
