Beneteau Antares 760 windlass

Thanks Mistroma
Yes I wondered about the switches - the lids had been blown upright by the wind the other day and the pads are a little perished so maybe water got in.

Got my multimeter in the car just waiting for a lunchtime to go test the footswitches when it's not raining!
Hopefully it is the switches gone bad - never had any problems with it before now.
If not it is 20yrs old so might need a new winch, will test fully first though. Fingers crossed.

Boats... I recently had to replace the oil cooler in the autumn for £1500 so I must be due another £1000 bill for something now it's another calendar year! 😖

it would be unusual for both switches to fail at the same time (I assume it won't go up or down). Do you have switches at the helm, and are they working?

Yes, I thought that too, but stranger things have happened. No, I don't have a remote switch at the helm.

The beeping in the wheelhouse is confusing me though. I've never heard it before from any other device on board and the windlass didn;t used to prompt any beeps when it was working.
The fuse doesn't trip but something was beeping when I pressed the windlass switches.

Suns come out so might have another look today!

Found out the cause of the problem and didn't need a new windlass!
The relay on the alternator (that prevents winding operation without the engine running) had been disturbed during maintenance and put back the wrong way (not me :)).
Hence the beeping (turned out to be the alarm on the VP console but I couldn't tell that until there was two of us to troubleshoot) and a dead windlass.
The electrician removed the relay and sorted the wiring so up and running again.
With the new config I don't need the engine running anymore (same as on Plum's 760) - although I wouldn't generally use the windlass without the engine on to avoid any battery or drifting issues.

Would never have guessed this was the problem without getting it looked at by a sparky. Also nice not to have a massive bill for once! 🥳

A good outcome. Where did you find an electrician small enough to get to the back of the alternator on a 760?

Ha, he wasn't as small as you'd expect - I was surprised he got in and out of that spot and did the job without too much trouble...
Money well spent!
