I want to fit a NASA BM1 battery monitor on my switch panel. This means that I have to get wiring from there to the engine compartment where the batteries are.

Behind the switch panel are three ducts. I know one goes to the foot of the mast, another aft to link up with the binnacle and I suspect that the third is the one I want but I can’t find where it exits. They all have mouses in them.I cannot find any clue as to how the wiring from the battery breakers get to the switch board.

Suggestions would be welcome. I suspect the other Oceanis’s of the same era (2000-2005) ie 331s etc followed the same pattern.

TIA

The conduits should be shown in the (somewhat sketchy) manual. However, on my 331 there is not a conduit that goes to the engine compartment (the third one in my case goes across the cabin). My battery monitor wire has been routed around the the galley, following the battery charger wires (I think).

At a guess, based on my Jeanneau 36.2 I'd say it will go under the chart table seat to the cabin sole, then through holes to the engine compartment. Are there cables or conduit if you life the floor? You should have a large bunch going that way for stuff like the windlass and lighting so it may not be conduit, just a large hole.

The owners manual only seems to give a schematic wiring diagram without ant guide where the cables run. The shore power charger is under the starboard side seating, opposite the switchboard.

No sign of any cables or conduits under the saloon sole. Could be in the moulded frames on which the floorboards rest but where does it exit?

This kind of fish tape is very flexible - you may be able to hear where it's going or, after pushing it through, hunt around and find the end sticking out.

Not what you're asking, but I would favour a Victron SmartShunt over the NASA BM1, as it does not require this wiring - you just check it with your phone. It also integrates with Victron's other products - you can add a display later, or it can communicate with their Smart Solar (should you add one later) to optimise charging.

What direction do the cables go from the battery switches? Also, where are those switches? It’s likely there is a conduit along the port side to the stern which might well have a gap half way to allow cables to exit in the rear cabins for things like a compass or possibly to batteries if they’re under a bunk.

Just looked up the layout of the boat and my guess is now one conduit goes to the bilge pump for pump and sensors, one to mast foot, and one to stern via rear port cabin. You may well also have cables along port outside a conduit just running along the hull and cable tied to the outside of the conduit.

Also, there’s a group on Facebook called Beneteau Oceanis 361 with 671 members. Those folk will probably know!

Thanks for all the suggestions..

After a lot of poking around I have found that the third duct exits at the depth sounder and log - so no use.

I could use the duct to the rear and lead the cable back inside the fuel tank area but that would be a bit convoluted.

As to where he wire from the battery breaker to the switchboard go -God knows. At the switchboard end the wires just disappear behind a large connector board and I cannot make anything out at the other end.

I have applied to join the Facebook group and hope they might help.
