bending ply...any ideas?

But surely a bit of a pedant would be an arm or a leg etc. I can only assume that a substantial part of your body was removed, dating from the days when you were a pedant and you now regard yourself, having in mind the size of the total of the body parts that have been removed, as now the remaining bit of a pedant.

I realise I am on dangerous ground here for at least two reasons. You may indeed be an amputee - and that I only got an O level in English [and it must have been a close thing].

Re your seat - would it be possible to laminate it in fibreglass, using a section of Formica (which bends easily) as a mould?
If a varnished finish is desired, then you could perhaps laminate on a very thin (single ply even) sheet of the plywood used for making models (?)

Obechi Veneer or Sapele ? Very thin and able to roll up small when damp.

Yes it would be possible but by the time he had made the mould to get the correct radius (out of what?...ply!) he would have done the job the way I described.

I got the impression that he has a former already made up, hence I was thinking that one could then just wrap a piece of Formica (Arborite) around it, slap on some wax to ensure release afterwards, and then slap on a few layers of fibreglass, perhaps finishing with a very thin layer of something that is wood in order to get the desired wood effect.

Might be easier than trying to bend (hopefully not break) plywood.

At least you didn't try it with 20mm ply /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
I had a go at steaming a piece around a tight bend on the foredeck, but after advice from the classic forum guys I changed to 4mm and repairs are now going well. The cat is annoyed though. He no longer has a foredeck hatch to get through when checking the boat out /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Don't give up, it's worth the effort.
