suggest you do a search - the subject of bavaria quality has been done to death on the forums so you might not get many people interested in going through it again..

Extremely good value-for-money high-volume production boats, ideal for gentle cruising and owner-occupation whilst in a marina.

They sail quite well in light airs due to their lightweight construction and their electrics, deck fittings and motor installation are of generally good quality.

Under no circumstances should you compare them with your current boat which, despite some minor disadvantages, is thoroughly seaworthy.

From a financial point of view depreciation is high and parking them in breezy conditions can be quite challenging.

I don't often disagree with Charles, but on this one I know his views and I have to tell him, again, he is largely mistaken in absolute and comparative terms.

I own one, sail it, maintain it, love it and share it with numerous other sailors and persons of discretion! As Charles proves, boats are very personal things and a choice cannot be represented as a distilled and scientifically dissected matter. I say if you like what you see, go with it.

If Bavaria, Beneteau etc produced rubbish boats that were dangerous or wouldn't sail, you'd think we might know about it; after all between the top 3 producers they launch over 6000 hulls a year. And Moody?

Won't write yet another long espistle on this topic. If you want a chat, feel free to call me on 0208 440 3086.

BAvaria make....

..and have made over the years two distinct ranges. The aft cockpit boats and the centre cockpit range. The latter still have solid wood locker doors as opposed to the chipboard ones with moulded on veneer finish. Also the general finish is better on the centre cockpit boats which is why they are very much more expensive than the AC versions.

This is not to give the impression that the AC boats are rubbish. Indeed the moulding and engineering work is superb. You just get a better finish on the CC boats.

Asides from what Steve Cronin says - and that's interesting, I hadn't clocked that! There has been a distinct change in build quality over the past few years. Try to look at a 7/10 year old then compare with the current models. Same with other makes like Beneteau. They're chasing new markets.
