Battery

I dealt with a similar problem last winter, step one - modified a cardboard box to replicate battery ( 3d template)
Took template to boat and tried it in various locations until happy with attitude, cable length, fuse position etc.
Used some cardboard sheet to make templates in situ for box (short spirit level useful here) shaped gables extend to floor to take weight
Retired to workshop and made a wooden battery box, including strop for extracting battery from box, slightly oversize for plastic lining.
Made fitted lid with apertures for cables, (Boat Safety Scheme demands that batteries are covered), rope securing strap extends to floor of box.
Varnished box then bolted one side securely to bulkhead, ends are shaped to transfer weight to curved floor of locker.
Tested for robust security, fixed fuse holder on outside end of box next positive cable. Crimped new cables and modified old ones.

Like your reply but being a lazy old git, it’s just the level of labour I was hoping to avoid.

If you are short of space try this.
I fitted one of these Varley Red Top 30 Racing Battery
with this bracket Varley Red Top 30 Battery Bracket
Allowed me to fit the starter battery beside the engine. nice short cables to the starter. All you need to check is that the cranking amps are suitable for your engine. I use mine on a Yanmar 2GM20. On the site there are other batteries with more or less cranking amps.
Not the cheapest option but dead easy to fit, only thing you might need to add is a local battery isolator switch.

Yes, but the acid isn't slopping around.

Without checking prices, I'd think it would be cheaper and probably more secure to build a shelf and fit a car battery than to get AGM.
I've just replaced all my batteries with AGM, not that much more expensive than lead, just don't buy them from Halfords. I have also built a shelf, but that is more about access and being tidy.

Sorry, AGM batteries, stand for Absorbed Glass Matting ! THEY ARE NOT LEAD ACID !
You can shoot holes, in an AGM battery, and nothing will leak !
On top of that, even with a few bullet holes AGM batteries, still work ! Dont ask !
I had an oddesy AGM battery, in my Moto Guzzi, and it was fitted, stood on end !
Lasted 80 000 miles !
Get an AGM and even fit it upside down, if you want !

That is like saying a dog is a mammal, not a quadruped. AGM batteries differ from flooded lead–acid batteries in that the electrolyte is held in the glass mats, as opposed to freely flooding the plates., but the chemistry is still lead-acid.

AGM Batteries can be fitted any way you want !
Stood on end, sideways, whatever.
Ok I have not seen any fiitted upside down, but there is no reason, why that wouldnt work !
They are Not LEAD ACID ! There is no liquid !
They do not leak !
Some people, should use google , before posting antiquated or nonsensical answers !

No, wrong... They differ, since there is no liquid to spill, dunno what theaters you have ever been in, but a lead acid battery with a couple of AK 47 rounds though it , is a dead battery !
An AGM battery, with a couple of bullet holes in it, makes no difference
nothing leaks out ,and the outboards, start perfectly !
