'Back-tow' lifejackets?

Well I suppose you could just drown to make the point, or get your serrated knife and cut it...your choice.

Or get a back-tow lifejacket. First sail with it yesterday, very comfortable - but declined to test the back tow option

Except the rest of the life jacket seems to not provide features I require.

Watching the video, I'm more convinced that this is a tether issue. A properly designed tether with a quick release is not beyond the technical capabilities of manufacturers. In the meantime a knife works easily if you cannot release in the normal manner. I carry one when I dive or sail so no need to bin a good life jacket for one scenario.
