Hi

Does anyone know (or can point me in the right direction to find out) the AVS - Angle of Vanishing Stability - for a Beneteau Oceanis 440.

I have tried Beneteau’s site, both UK, US and French but the boat is no longer in production and therefore is not listed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some time ago I email Beneteau with the following:

Hi

I am in the process of purchasing a 1996 Beneteau Oceanis 440 and was curious to know what the stability rating (AVS - Angle of Vanishing
Stability) was.

Would it be possible for you to email this information to me?

Thank you

Here is the "unbelievable" reply:

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your interest in our products.
Unfortunately we don't have this information, the only thing I can send you by mail is a copy of the brochure with a general equipment list.

Yours faithfully

If Beneteau don't know the specifications of their own boats does anyone know who does. Any ideas would be apreciated.

I would imagine that the AVS would be dependant on what fittings etc the boat has got ie is in mast reefing fitted, does it have radar, how many water tanks & position, is it the standard keel config. so I'm not really surprised that they wo'nt give you a figure for a 6 year old boat.

Why?

They made the boat, so all they need to do is tell me the AVS as it left the factory. There were only 3 configurations so it cant be all that difficult - can it?

Also they didn't say they would not give it, they said they didn't have it. Quite a difference I think.
