Hi.there

Ive recently.acquired an avon redstart dinghy but im stuck for a motor mount to put the outboard on does anybody have any suggestions?

Seems you can get them new for around £100 or if you want something cheaper keep an eye on eBay.

Thanks neale ive seen them on ebay mate but i dunno why theyre soo expensive is there not another solution?

They are cheap for what they are, there's £40 of materials in them and the chaps who make them deserve to be paid for their labours. The used price for brackets is buoyant because they are robust, do their job well and are an accessory for a dinghy which if Avon still existed and still made dinghies would cost around £1200.

Long shaft or Short?

on a Redstart the standard bracket takes a standard/ short shaft engine. They will take a Seagull featherweight which is even shorter.

The bracket can also be bought from Polymarine.. but they are £115.50

It's still doing a grand job on my Redstart.

Copper workhardens and cracks; I wouldn't hang anything other than an electric O/B off that, the vibrations from a petrol one will kill it sooner rather than later.
