Last week my 2000+ tillerpilot lost the plot and I nearly ran aground. I started researching replacements.
Last Sunday I discovered Amazon were selling the Raymarine Evolution Tiller Pilot pack for £967.48. I went ahead and ordered it and had the order acknowledged.
Today I got an email from them saying my order had been dispatched and would be arriving on Friday. They gave me a tracking number and when I clicked on it I got the message that "... A problem had occurred during shipping and they had had to cancel my order." I will be getting a refund in due course.
When I clicked on the link it told me that (a) the item was not in stock and (b) the price was now £1434.75.
I know the first price was cheap but do they not have a duty to supply the item at the original price?
I have been a member of Which for a number of years and rather thought they would give me advice. But guess what? They're as bad as all the companies they slag off. I need to take out Legal membership
What do people think I should do now?

Me too, for decades. I think they are quite clear that basic membership does not entitle you to free legal advice and they have a separate legal subscription. And I have wondered if you can just subscribe for a month each time you want advice!

Alternatively I believe Citizens Advice Bureau are free...

And worth what they charge.

I think you'll find that an advertised price is not an offer under the terms of the law of contract, it's an "invitation to treat".

You then make the offer in offering to buy it at that price and if the seller then decides not to accept your offer, there's no contract.

Crux is whether they took the money from your account. If yes, you have a contract if no then not. You could always exact petty revenge by ordering it then refusing delivery, though, to be fair, some sellers increase prices to deter orders for out of stock items because it's simpler for them.

How did they get such a high percentage and high number of great customer ratings with that kind of service?

I take it thge seller was not Amazon themselves but one of their associated ones? I use Amazon often but prefer if possible to buy stuff listed as 'sold and shipped by Amazon. Also just to be clear, did the OP order from Amazon UK or Amazon .com? Could be a dollar price recalculated in GBP so duty, VAT and overseas shipping to be added?
I have always found Amazon very helpful and honourable/ethical even for stuff sold by Amazon sellers. Smaller price scale but recently had a toaster delivered from a 'seller' that arrived damaged looking like rehashed return. We live on our boat, have no car so returns not easy. Amazon immediately credited the full invoice price plus we got to keep the toaster and repaired the damage ourselves (cracked case) meanwhile seller had increased price for 'new' ones, his right, as mine was to not buy same model again.

I take it all back.
Despite the fact that using the 'Track my order' facility keeps saying the order has been cancelled and the goods returned to Amazon Germany, the parcel arrived today. It appears to be a brand new box with dates on some of the parts in March and April 2020. I assume those are manufactured dates and not Best Before dates.
And they did only debit my card with £967.48. Bargain, or what? I'm really chuffed.
Now I just have to work out how to install it - and connect it in to my NMEA0183 and Lowrance systems. Good job it's too miserable to go sailing.

Good news on your purchase arrival.

I installed my Evolution as stand alone as I will be updating my old Navman plotter at some point. I use the Navman features to just manually adjust the Autohelm course when wandering off the track. The hardest part of the installation was finding good routes for the backbone cable and spur cables to the EV Sensor Core. I ended up buying the 6m back bone and 6m spur cable to fit together. Once they were run it was all just plug and play after that. I used existing old auto helm wires to power the ACU and thus backbone. Set up was easy once powered up, just follow the set up wizard and hey presto, a working system.

Never heard of Which legal membership. I am a standard Which subscriber and used v successfully their legal advisors who were extremely useful in their advise.
