Automatic lifejackets

Stepped aboard the lugger yesterday to find that my automatic lifejacket had automatically inflated itself since I was last aboard (last Saturday). It looked as if it had dropped off its shelf as the boat went aground at an angle, and the inflation tag had caught somewhere so off it went. But it didn't go off properly as, whilst it was fully opened up, it was not fully inflated! I have blown it up and left it for 24 hours and it kept the pressure, so I have re-armed it and re-packed it, but do I re-trust it?
Anyone had a similar experience?

When you removed the used gas bottle was it screwed in tight.i think they can come unscrewed a bit in normal use then allow some of the gas to escape during inflation.
