Hoping to take the family to Oz (Sydney and Brisbane) for Easter, and would like to get in a bit of boating while I'm there, even if it is just across the harbour. Be good to do it in a proper boat (rag or mobo) rather than a ferry. Any ideas about how to do this, forums, clubs, websites etc.

Regards

Mike

p.s. new boat arriving v. soon - yippee.

I lived in Queensland for a few years, and had great fun boating (both raggie and moto). Before we bought our first boat (see avatar) we used to hire a 'tinny' for the day. You can hire them from some petrol stations on a trailer or probably also from a marina.
Not expensive, no license required if under a certain hp I think. Mind you I 'bought' my Ozzie speed boat license for 2 bottles of jack daniels.

Alternatively you could charter a luxury yacht...

enjoy

went round the whitsundays in june last year.
Probably the best 4 days of my life, on a 60ft schooner. departs from airlie beach near to proserpine. swimming with fish of all sorts of colours, they come right up to you as well it truly is amazing.
This was done with Barefoot cruises on a boat called Windjammer - I havent been able to find a website, i think it was all done thru a travel agent when we went.

lots of places to hire boats, you won't have a problem, just depends on your budget
just north of Cairns area, Port Douglas is a great place. Hired day boats there a few times, and its one of the main places the Quicksilver boats go from to the barrier reef. Completely different area to Brisbane which is nice but North Queensland is fantastic, you will find lots of info on the internet.
