ASDA Deck shoes

Sorry Arthur but you are wrong. It is something to do with us. Who on earth do you think supports/bribe these corrupt, uncaring governments. Guess what!... its our very own 1st World governments (in the national interest of course). And they support them for the goodies they have to offer, and to enable access to our vast Global Corporates to fatten their profits on the backs of people paid starvation wages whilst working in hell hole conditions. Admittedly some progress is being made to improve things, albeit painfully slowly, but that is only being brought about by dedicated people shaming the brand names into acting more responsibly. Chances are... they wouldn't do so otherwise.

As for the Asda/Walmart smoke and mirrors 'Scarboroughsloop', maybe a glance at this might enlighten you http://waronwant.org/overseas-work/...e-for-victims-of-bangladesh-building-collapse

Its Albert.....................now moving on

Many of these 'poor' countries were heavily invested in by British, French Spanish, Dutch etc entrepreneurs/govenments in the 19th and early 20th century. Then 'the colonials' were kicked out and the countries went downhill from thereon, due to in-fighting, tribalism, religions, power crazed dictators, et al.
Strangely they seem to place the blame upon us who invested and helped the poor blighters in the past, and now some too liberal minded do-gooders think that we should continue to supply handouts in perpetuity.

Your views seem to verge on the Communistic in that the whole world should get paid the same and all umpteen Billions of us should have the same standard of lifestyle.

Rant over. I off down to Asda to get a pair of shoes

I feel like I'm going off topic, but I recently splashed out three times that on a pair of Clarks deck shoes (http://www.clarks.co.uk/p/20348660) Why? Certainly not for 'pontoon cred' but because they've got the grippiest sole I've ever seen. Must be some kind of Formula One tyre technology. I figured something that reduced the risk of me slipping into the oggin was worth the money.

Would that be "invested in" as in "exploited"?

So by implication you consider it entirely right that people should experience widely disparate degrees of prosperity and living standards solely by accident of birth and geography.

Same difference! all got something out of it, The Asian Indians got great railway system, cricket and a form of government and law they had never experienced, we got Curry, Bungalows and snooker!

Yes

"Communistic" isn't a word. It's certainly not a credible counter argument.

Might not be in the Oxford dictionary, but it indicates the opinion I hold.

I am sure that many others (perhaps even the silent majority) do have similar views but do not take the opportunity to express it or feel that that they can for risk of being labelled.

I am not sure that many thoughtful people do see the world this way in the 21st C, and the small number that do might well run the risk of being seen as politically and economically short sighted.

If you lived in Australia and sailed a yacht with more than one hull you would not need deck shoes (as they, the shoes, are no match for the crocs, poisonous spiders, life threatening jelly fish, dingoes, nor skin cancer):)

Their country, their rules.
The rates of pay, standard of living, form of government, fire and building regulations is absolutely none of our business. It is for them to sort out .
Any interference is a form of cultural colonialism. They are not our responsibility. Stop feeling guilty and stop patronising other sovereign nations.
Leave them alone to develop as they wish without imposing our culture and distorting theirs with our charity and advice.
Our way is not always the best.

Stuff the bickering, go out & buy the shoes & tell us if they are any good
Stop trying to help people who are nothing to do with us
When you give them too much they will know too much, then you get hassle from them not thanks
Better still spend your effort helping those at home. Like buying British goods made by genuinely British people
So we ( meaning you) can pay more taxes to increase my pension!!
