Ascension Island

Would welcome any comments regarding calling in at Ascension Island. Particularly any details of facilities for replenishment/refuelling etc.
Also, is it pssible for a civilian to fly out from there should it be necessary (family emergency etc)

Hacve a look at http://www.ascension-island.gov. It gives you all you need to know about visiting though doesn't seem to be any facilities for visiting yachts. Maybe try e-mailing the Administrator there?

You can fly there but in an RAF aircraft and no it's not a Tornado, one of their crappy transport planes and they sell tickets just like a "proper airline", but not a cheap flight. Check it out for yourself, the site's quite good.

I heard a rumour that Mr Branson's interested in investing in the island to turn it into a new toursit destination, but don't know how true that is.

God site ... now do you have one for St. Helena please... I am having trouble findiing out about St Helena .. I was working on a plan to leave OZ... sail via Indian Ocean , to Cape Town then St Helana < Ascension etc... thanks to you I can now find out about Ascension.. so hopefully you can give me a site for further research. Have you been to either ?

What do you want to know?
The main anchorage is Jamestown, cost about £11/person to land there, currency is sterling (local variety). The locals are extremely friendly& honest. Look a bit like UK in 1950's. Bars/restaurants/clubs are good.
If you want paradise, certainly after 2 weeks at sea, then this is it. No palm covered beaches though.

are you talking St Helena ?... the url for Ascension was great.. I was just wondering if there was similar site for St Helena.
Are we welcome there to fuel , resupply and a bit of R&R before heading off again . NO wasn't interested in palm trees etc... have tons of these in the Pacific.

Yes St Helena.
Yes you can refuel, but check it carefully - suggest you filter it into your tanks. They will bring it out for you in 45 gall drums, depending on how much you need. Great place for R&R. Somewher you will always want to go back to.
