The Crinan hotel before covid offered a pair of Arbroath smokies with chips and some greens, delicious, though on occasion you did not get the second smokey, I suppose it depended on demand.
So in Arbroath find somewhere that offers the speciality and do not let them deep fry it, just needs heating up like smoked mackerel. To visit Arbroath and eat anything else would be a travesty.

I travestied. Can get smokies at home. Grilled are lovely.

Harbour master said Marco's if you want veg oil and Peppos if you want lard. I went for Marco's which was fine - not 10/10.

Left this morning and now at my permanent new mooring. Will have to change my moniker.

The number of pot markets outside the harbour is certainly striking. When I went into the harbour I saw why - loads of pot boats and piles of creels. Never seen the like of it before. Surely they can't all be making money?

Not too close but , Anstruther for us tonight!! Hmmm?

I used to sit at the interior wheel on our old Southerly and watch the queue to pick the right moment to walk around to the old shop. It was harder when they opened the new shop and had a large interior queuing area and I needed binoculars. :D Best place in the area and we regularly visited Ainster.

I remember speaking to an old guy in the harbour and eventually realised that he was the father of the shop's owner. I think he'd started as a fisherman, opened the shop and also bought a load of property. He said that he owned the entire block along that part of the front, given a large fish sales business to one son and the new shop to the other. It must have been about 30 years ago but I imagine it might still be owned by the same family.
