We are considering an Aquair Water Generator with the "hoist in rigging" conversion kit. i've seen a few posts about the genre (duogen etc) with some concerns.
one i have is the ability to hoist and lower the turbine once hoisted when the blades are spinning without getting my hands chopped off! i couldn't see a way to stop the turbine from turning.
Does anyone have any experience with these? or is my imagination running riot?

does anyone have any other comments on the product from practical experience?

many thanks

I now have the ampair wind genny and am very pleased with it. I did previously have a "hoist in the air" I worked well and just had to be extra careful when lowering it, even though it would spin slower as it came out of the wind. I did have a bit of trouble when the yardarm block came loose from the yardarm (probably due to the vibration and stress) and the whole unit impacted the deck and shattered the blades, now I have a mizzen mounted machine.

no problem with the Duogen as the unit has a hole in the fin very low down, away from the blades to turn the blades into the wind to stop them

I have an Aero4gen which I have not yet installed or used so I admit that I have not yet tried what I am about to suggest....... If you short out the output it becomes very difficult to turn over and I have been told by LVM that you can arrange a switch to short circuit it while it is running at speed. This will stop it or at least slow it significantly and I was assured that it would not damage the generator. I guess the switching would have to be arranged so that it also disconnects it from the battery at at the same time.

I strongly suggest that you check with Ampair before trying this but it may be the solution to your problem.

Duogen is my choice, and am trying to decide whether I get that this year or a solar panel (will eventually have both) as I have serious power shortage.

thanks all for your comments.
I don't think the Duogen is an option for us as there isn't enough room on our narrow transom with the self-steering gear. the Aquair looks a much more compact unit in this respect.
