Looking at one of these one design classics as a family dinghy, anyone have experience of sailing one? How tippy are they? What are they like to sail?

Thanks.

I did a bit of team racing in one years ago. What I can remember is: Clinker built, gunter rigged with (ye gods) bamboo spars, heavy cast iron centerplate. No buoyancy bags, so sinks when capsized. Slow and plodding, so ideal for team racing, not much good for anything else.

I have a Tideway 14 that is an ideal family dinghy in the traditional style. Not tippy, bags of room, not especially exciting to sail but I can take 6 or single-hand as the mood and opportunity dictate...

Thank you that's very generous. We've just pressed the button on a shabby chic Falmouth Bass Boat, soon to be the subject of a PBO forum refurb thread.

16. Much more sedate than a Norfolk 14 but there's not a bad word to say about them online and a number we're used just as day fishing boats so I reckon they must be stable.
