Anyone Flooded?

I've just been out in the car and heard on Heart Essex that the flood warning for Jaywick had been downgraded, and they thought it might not now flood. I'm starting to think that many of these dire warnings are just jobsworths covering their backs.

And there's a very god reason for "jobsworths" to cover their backs. Ask Michael Fish who never lived down his no hurricane forecast. Plenty of other scapegoats available on request.

That was very unfair to Micheal Fish. What he actually said was "There is not going to be a hurricane, but there will be a lot of wind". The media cut him off at the word hurricane, and did not mention that he said "but there would be a lot of wind". Furthermore it never got up to hurricane level, but the media do not let the facts get in the way of a good story

Humm err, was not the problem as I recall, the use of the term Hurricane, as I later learnt /understood that the term Hurricane does not cover similar phenomenon in our UK areas, a very high wind or storm, but not a Hurricane,

Can see that Mr Fish reporting got somewhat altered by subsequent editing /pruning by News editors etc.

Humm well whatever the technical term, we lost most of our well established Beech trees that night, completely uprooted them, almost our car as well which was completely cover by fallen trees, our large garden shed split in two and months of clearing up afterwards, humm, no Hurricane eh ? just perhaps a Whirlwind then ?

Umm! Predicted tide at West Mersea today is 5.4m at 1238. Normally on a 5.4m tide, the Strood would be covered about an hour before HW. Right now is 1159 and the traffic is passing over the Strood without even splashing. Tis late and not that high yet.

Update - they are just splashing a little bit now (1201)

JAYWICK Storm Damage

A major storm hit Jaywick in the early hours of Friday morning. Victims were seen wandering around aimlessly, muttering “Faaackinell”. The storm decimated the area causing almost £30 worth of damage.

Several priceless collections of mementos from Majorca and the Costa Del Sol were damaged beyond repair. Three areas of historic burnt out cars were disturbed. Many locals were woken well before their giros arrived. Essex FM reported that hundreds of residents were confused and bewildered and were still trying to come to terms with the fact that something interesting had happened in Jaywick. Apparently looting, muggings and car crime were unaffected and carried on as normal.

One resident – Tracy Sharon Smith, a 15-year-old mother of 5 said, “It was such a shock, my little Chardonnay-Mercedes came running into my bedroom crying. My youngest two, Tyler-Morgan and Victoria-Storm slept through it all. I was still shaking when I was skinning up and watching Trisha.”

The British Red Cross has so far managed to ship 400 crates of Special Brew to the area to help the stricken locals. Rescue workers are still searching through the rubble and have found large quantities of personal belongings, including benefit books, jewellery from Elizabeth Duke at Argos and Bone China from Poundland.

**Breaking news**

Rescue workers found a girl in the rubble smothered in raspberry alco-pop.
‘Where are you bleeding from?’ they asked, “Jaywick” said the girl, “woss that gotta do wiv you?

Mercilessly plagarised from another website :)

Thinking precisely the same SM

Had a look at Sheerness not far away from the evacuations, looks near enough to predictions

Lowestoft slightly higher but only approx 0.5 metre above predictions.

Yes I remember fretting looking at the Shotley Webcam watching the pile height above the pontoons disappearing little by little. Thankfully with the extensions on them that is not such a worry.

I went out on the river ( as i deemed it safer) after informing Fox`s management @ 15.00 they should get some welders in PDQ.
The water was up to a level that went under FMYC Clubhouse
We now have all new & longer piles
