Any recommendations for a rigger?

Sorry to put a dampener on the glowing tributes for Mr Nicholls but my experience was less than satisfactory. Whilst he was at my club I asked him for a quote in the spring for the 8 wires on my rig. Well it was nearly too much trouble, he huffed and puffed and made a right palaver about laying a tape along the mast, which was on the ground too. He eventually sent an exhorbitant quote by email several weeks later, well more of a two line note actually. After recovering from the shock I asked if he could itemise so I could budget, no reply received to date!
On the other hand, Craig from Brightlingsea was very helpful, visited my club and inflected the rig, gave me a written report (which recommended changing in three years time) and also a quote for wires at shout 50% of DRS price. This guy is ex sailspar and Foxes, he could have replaced my rigging then but after his inspection showed it was servicable he left it alone. That is what I call honesty and integrity and he will get my business in future.

I am interested in the findings.

My club agreed with Big N to complete a number of rig checks, (around 10 or 12). He completed 2 & would not return multiple calls or mails chasing to come back & complete the rest! Puzzling we never found out why not?? On asking around many people had similar individual experiences.

So if anyone finds a reliable fair prized company I can use look forward to hearing about them.

We carry out rigging work here, at Southwold, in fact it's usually me that does it.
I've just re rigged a Peter Duck ketch and a Oyster 435 with new standing and running rigging.

Standing Rig checks for insurance are a nightmare.
We used to get a specialist in but they cover their backsides all the time and essentially condemn anything over 5 to 8 years old no matter how good it looks.
We take a little more of a pragmatic view as we recognised we can condemn just as well as them but at half the cost plus we now take a view on the boat, its use, cruising area, owner etc.

Generally we only work on rigs here at the yard and don't usually travel but it's not unknown.
I'm not actually touting for work as frankly we're pretty busy but if you need a comparison quote or you fancy a trip up the coast let us know.

That said I'm a little nervous recommending myself as that's usually for others to do really especially on here.

I am glad you mentioned Craig www.sailingschoolandrigging.com as he came back to me with a quote so quickly I checked if he really was in Brightlingsea !!!. I haven't used him yet but his quote was quick, good, knowledgeable and thoughtful. I must get on with that rigging !!!

Whatever became of Simon of Response Rigging?

Aah Simon....what a bloody star, and all round good egg!

Had been trying to get hold of him but found out he had been unwell following an accident.

He has been so helpful and supportive with various rigging projects in the past. Top Bod.

Simon used to work for us at Fox's, as has been said a great guy and really good at rigging, he set up on his own but I have not herd anything from him for at least a year, he used to do the rigging jobs at Morgan Marine in Brightlingsea but they have not been able to get hold of him, he always did want to sail away and maybe that's what he has done!
