The Marina want me to leave a light on in the boat so they can monitor my electric supply cutting out.
Seems to me a waste of electric whilst its on.
Other than an Ob's camera, any suggestions.

They're having a laugh, surely. Never heard of anything so stupid. Still I suppose it's coming up to Xmas so maybe different coloured lights on all the boats would look pretty, especially if they flashed on and off.

Any competant electrican should be able to trace the fault. Tell them to stop being tight and get a proper sparks to have a look at the supply. Taht is of course, if the fault is in the shorepower supply. There could be a fault in your boats 240v lectrics. using your boat leccytrics is adding to the variables and possible faults. Seems pretty stupid way to do it to me.

Hi
Your last post about Anodes? I think I mentioned something about Earthing?? Seriously put your own mind at rest and get your boat electrics checked, asap. You will then be able to state to the Marina that your circuits are fine. I would be inclined to decline their request until then.

Solved that one. Anodes were not changed at the last service. He said they were not worn enough. Shame he never told me. Its not my electrics that are tripping out, its the pontoons. They say they have had the electrics checked by "sure something" cant remember and there is not a fault.
And I agree, leaving a light on is crap. I wondered if there was an audible battery powered alarm that goes of when the power fails, like in my server at work.

You could look at www.mobialarm.co.uk, this will text your mobile phone if the power fails, thew obv camera will only text you when the power comes back on.

I have an obv camera but need to install it on the boat, hopefully this weekend, but am also looking at the above device for power.

I think it cost about £250

Hi Phil
Sitting here with a glass, I can see some logic in what the marina are asking you to do by leaving your lights on, should the power trip then your lights will be out so they will then know that the trip has gone and needs resetting, it does not solve the problem, but is an instant warning that something is amiss!!!!!

Ask the marina to swap the shore power units to one with lights, every unit on our jetty also provides light, hence the marina can see very easily if one jetty trips.

Unworn anodes can be a sign that they are not doing their job - How old are they?

<hr width=100% size=1>Do you think a Fleming 55 would look out of place on Windermere?

Not sure why they are making you do the diagnostics? However... how about a small relay that clicks over (off) when the power fails and the other side of the relay contacts are connected to your battery and a light, so the light comes on if the power fails.

Why don't they just replace your power unit? Or is that too obvious/

they were gone, that was the original problem.
I thought they had been changed at the last service, but they werent, so they were 18 months old. I thought they had worn in 6 months. Bad communication by engineer - he should have told me . I future I will do these jobs myself
