'Sinbad'

Due to go up for sale, but would like to find out some more history and estimated valuation of her.

I selling my boat due to my father having a recent heart bypass, thus unable to keep on top of it (I havent the time due to work commitments).
She is a real old classic boat that handles a big sea very well, engine starts first turn of the key - every time.
6 - 8 Knots, using under 1 gallon per hour.

I have a spare Kelvin P4 for parts, but never needed anything other than exhaust manifold.

28ft (8.53mt) Beam 8ft 6" (2.59mt), Draft 2ft 6" (0.76mt).

Construction: Carvel planked Mahogany, Elm & Oak framing (copper and bronze fastened), Iron bilge plates.

Ballast: Cast Pig Iron.

Built: 1959 Uphams, Brixham

Off No: 187072

Reg Tons: 5.01

Engine: Kelvin 'P4' 22HP (4 Cylinder, Direct sea cooled marine diesel)

Survey carried out by Robin Feloy 16th May 2008, all defects have been rectified for insurance purposes.

I have discussed the boat with another forum member and they wrote the following
built by uphams...now, not 100% on this, and just going on the pics & the boats lines, its very possible sinbad, could be a bit more important than you've maybe thought!
kelvin, famed for their engines, of which you've got a P4 also, designed and built a number of launches. they built the first few themselves (pre war) and after that had the hulls built at a number of yards, millers in scotland, dickies in bangor, and uphams, and supplied all the machinery etc themselves

so sinbad could be one of the very few remaining Kelvin launches left (talking a handful or so)
which might add a few quid to the classic value, especially given the sound condition............personally I think you should keep her!

Since owning the boat, I have heard the following story >>>>
The boat was built for the lord justice (or similar - high in the courts) of plymouth. He commissioned the build and when it was completed, he viewed the boat and decided it wasnt big enough and commissioned another larger boat......rumour has it the boat was originally named Wave Rider ?, sounds a strange name for the 1950's......I'm guessing someone in the know could research the boat for the Reg No' marked on the cabin timbers ?.

Note: Rubbing Strip done today (after the below photos) !

Kind Regards

The Holman family (who i think ran the Uphams yard in Brixham) still run the Darthaven marina
in Dartmouth. John Holman is usually at the Marina, maybe try dropping them an email.
