Well i keep my Cranchi Cruiser 32 in Empuriabrava (Costa Brava)and
so far have only had to antifoul once year.
Biggest problem is the growth on my legs (outdrives)(not the spindly
hairy things that protrude out of my shorts)Also props do suffer
as well.
(this reply should earn me at least a couple of stars)
Pauline, I've now had 2 seasons in the Med and the fouling is much worse than the English Channel. Last year in the Cote d'Azur, I had my boat lifted and jet washed 3 times in the season because it only took a few weeks to lose 5 -7 knots speed. This year we are in the Costa Blanca and the fouling is not as bad but I'm still 5 knots down on speed, having had my boat antifouled in June this year
If you want to keep your boat speed up, you dont necessarily have to re-antifoul your boat more than once a year but you will need to have your boat lifted and scrubbed maybe twice or three times a year
Absolutely, my schoolboat the F36 is the busiest vessel in the Marina out 4-5 days a week April to Oct and yet we have to lift and scrub her every three months to get back to speed. What you see on the hull is not weed as it does not have time to grow however there is a kind of slime which still slows her down .
Add to that the props covered in some kind of scale and as Mike says your down 4-5knots. Again as a result we only antifoul once a year.
Growth in the Med a big problem. I have mine out , scrubbed and antifouled in the spring and dive under twice during the season for a good scrap. I'm now in Empuriabrava (not far from Mike) and because of the high water temperatures of the canals they tell me to expect even worse problems this year.
Oh now come on Pauline, when did you last worry about anything so trivial as anti fouling?! Surely that's MrBs job not yours!! Get back to counting your pairs of shoes...................../forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
