I'm going to connect a rope antenna to the Icom At 130 antenna tuner, without the suggested GTO 15 antenna cable. Am I doing something wrong?

The rope antenna will be used also for the Furuno fax 30 receiver. Is it ok or a separate antenna will be better?

I do not know about the gto15 cable, but if the tuner manages low SWR then youshould be OK. Do NOT share the same antenna for a receiver or you will fry it as soon as you transmit even low power. You might if using an antenna switch that totally disconnects the Fax receiver whilst transmitting.

Posted using iPad's awful keyboard. should get reward for achievement.

Yes.........You might electrocute your crew if they can touch the antenna when you transmit. The GTO-15 is an HT lead like a spark plug lead and gives some protection against shock. It also forms part of the antenna!

As said I would have a separate antenna for the Furuno. Cheaper easier and less risk than sharing an antenna.
It sounds from Bilgediver as if the GTO-15 cable is simply a well insulated cable section. You do need good insulation where the cable goes through the deck the fibreglass being likely to be covered in salt. (Or it might be a steel boat).
You can get much the same effect by using theb inner and insulation of RG 8 coax cable. The heavy stiff 12mm diameter 50 ohm coax. If you can find copper centred ignition wire that would do well too. Not carbon track ignition wire.
I would suggest that you work towards a whip antenna on the transom. (not dependant on mast being up.) But the tuner to antenna problem is the same. good luck olewill
