Another where are we?

We met at Lochinver a few years ago. I was on inside of main pontoon nearer the village end with wife as crew sitting out some bad weather. You were on inside of same pontoon but to seaward end. At least I think it was you.

Great pictures Angus. Clearly I came across this thread too late when all answered.

Certainly would have got the Lochinver one - as it looks like out boat is in the picture :)

Hope you are well and we can all restart cruising these water soon (I know we both planned to be away by now).

It's on the way to Kipford or Kircudbright, I can't remember which, one of the two!
They are quite similar, because both have an island with a lighthouse at the river mouth. However, there are two light(house)s on Little Ross Island at the mouth of the Dee for Kirkcudbright:

and only one on Hestan Island at the mouth of the Urr for Kippford:

I always have to think about it to make sure I've got the right one. Little Ross Island offers shelter from all directions (but not all in the same place) while Hestan Island is less welcoming. There was, however, a plan in the 1840s to build a huge new port, similar to Holyhead, in Auchencairn Bay, beside Hestan. It never came to anything, but the Act of Parliament for a railway via Dalbeattie was passed.
