Does anybody know what difference it makes if the bow thruster's anode is made of zinc instead of magnisium, even though the boat is used exclusively in the inland waterways?

yes, it wont work as an anode.

Hi,
Zinc anodes should not be used for fresh water, they will get coated in weeks and if not taken into salt water to clean/reactivate they will not work.
If left in fresh water too long they will need a wire brush or a grinding wheel otherwise they will not give any protection even in salt water.
