Pete this is 2M , seen the makers plate ,beacause of the bathing platform not being full width or there abouts on the T 34 even for curvature of 3.4.
In fact with this 2M there is only 20 cm either side to allow access .
A 2.4 will just be too big no room to step by .

Another solution would have been to get Watsons to make a couple of removable cantilevered teak chocks .
With these slightly offset to the L ( as you look from the stern ) ,thus being able to poss get a 2.2 or 2.4 on and access to the gate .
Also when deployed , remove the chocks leaving a nice smooth safe edge to the B flat form --assuming after removal of the scrotum rippers + shin skinners :)-- and made good the gel coat .

Seems odd a lot of time phaffing with the TV , which will get near zero use in the Med and little forum 0.02 p ,s worth on the important bits imho

Tender
Supporting it
Storing it
Deploying it

I know it's been put an a back burner ,but as the pic ^^ shows it's solved a lot of issues in the list above cos you don,t need a gate entry with it deployed.
No hassle storing a manual ,removable pass -- where are you gonna keep that btw ?

With guests on board ( which will happen ) how does the air con ( under front bunk ) cool the rear guest cabin ?
Remember those cabins get extra hot due to heat soak as the engines cool , great in winter not so in so in the summer .

Regarding the tender, with Snap Davits you can offset the tender right over to port which gives ~1.0m to starboard. Not great but should be sufficient. DorsetDan had the same size tender on his.

Ref TV, it's more about disguising the damage to the panel. I hardly watch TV at home so won't be spending much time using it on the boat. The wife likes to watch box sets though.

Ref Pasarelle, I'm not spending £10k or whatever on a pasarelle like that but I hope we can get a folding one that can sit under the aft seat in the cockpit.

To get A/C to the front and rear cabins you need two units (ideally with the vents installed before the bathroom moulding is fitted) which I don't consider a worthwhile investment on a 15 year old boat like ours.

These are the results of our efforts yesterday. We didn't have sufficient clearance behind the panel to put in a 240v socket and coax point so I ended up buying a cable tidy / brush socket for a £8 to cover the big hole that was there before. Here's a close-up...

The screw holes were covered by little vinyl patches that I bought for a couple of quid from eBay. They're a little too white so I'll try come creamier ones.

Here's the overall effect (the TV is one I bought second hand from JtB).

The bracket locks against the wall and the TV can be lifted out too for really rough stuff.

Not perfect but it will do until I manage to find a perfect match for the vinyl.

They're not coming off as they are very securely attached and in any case needed to hold the tender. As Rafiki says, there are thousands of pairs in use not causing any injuries. Perhaps I should invent padded covers for them! Dragon's Den here I come!

Most peoples are securely attached but they could still be ripped of. The danglers I mean :). That article made me wince somewhat

Regarding the whole tender thing. With the right electric pump it is not that time consuming (especially while lounging in the med) to pump it up. I have the Bravo BTP12M which is a duel speed pump with deflate as well which helps a lot when packing. Then just leave it in the water for a few days and tow about, then deflate and store away at other times. I also think realistically in the med it is nice to go slower most of the time so towing is no real problem. Tie it at the front in the water also when mooring

Just my 2 pence

Good work on the TV vinyl . Best of a bad situation I feel

Dennis

Thanks Dennis, at some point I'll recover the panel if I can get an exact match for the vinyl. At least I can move on to other tasks for now.

Regarding the tender, a PO has thoughtfully fitted a 12v socket to the bathing platform so it would be easy enough to inflate the tender there. We've got a roll-up one (slatted floor) and the whole thing sits quite nicely in its bag under one of the berths. I just need to try it out and see how much of a faff it is.

Check the pin layout of the socket as some were heavy duty factory fit I believe Marinco 16 or 20amp.
We are going S France/Cataluna Motorhome touring. So big boat across channel.
Thought you were crossing channel on boat.

Thanks for the socket tip S.

I came to the conclusion that it was more sensible to have the boat collected from Hythe and taken straight to Spain rather than mess around in open waters on a boat that hasn't run many hours since a very major service.

We're going to spend a few weeks in San Carles and do a bit more of a shake down before taking it across to Palma (we might pay a delivery skipper to do it) or we can spend the winter in SCM (which I'm a bit reluctant to do as the convenient flights end in October). I'm trying to keep my options open.

Enjoy your drive around France / Spain!

SC isn't that bad.
Marina is less than 2 hours from Barcelona.
Where there are 7 BA flights a day from Heatrow, a daily flight from Bristol and 2 per day from Gatwick.
Plus lots of options from other airports.

Mike, we're planning on doing a few long weekends over the winter and 2 hours from the airport to boat is just too long (practically speaking it's probably more like 3 hours from touchdown). It's just a shame that RA stop both the Reus and Castellon flights from the end of October.

Anyhow, I should be out there for a few days on my own w/c 15/10 if you or any other forumites are around for a beer or two.

Got the call from Col (our engineman) on Monday to say his work is done so SWMBO, our little white fluffy dog and I trekked down to Hythe to give it a run. Forecast was looking OK, a little windy but no rain and the chance of some sun.

We were fairly limited time wise as we had a few things to do and decided to take advantage of the free flow from 11-1pm. Had a lovely blast down the Southampton water in the sun but decided not to venture further afield as it was a bit lumpy in the Solent. So headed back towards Hythe with a detour up the Hamble.

Boat now running very nicely and no re-occurrences of the issues that we'd experienced earlier so hopefully that's all behind us.

I don't think the dog was very impressed but SWMBO enjoyed it.

On the way back the port side hour counter decided to display its hours which thankfully were spot on to what we had been told pre-sale. Slightly higher than most boats of that age but I'm not at all bothered.

One other bonus is that the bow thruster 'on' light seems to have started working again so that's another job off the list.

So all in all, a successful day.

Incidentally, you may have spotted the horseshoe life raft thing on the guard rail. Am I right in thinking that its siting is rather poor (hard to reach from the helm and on the side deck that's got slightly compromised access)? I'm tempted to chuck it in the bin, what do you think?

Chuck it in the bin? You might need it one day. Yes its not in an ideal position. Didnt Fairline design a space for a life ring somewhere in the cockpit?

The ring that's in there is quite perished but the holder is in good condition. There's no space in the cockpit to mount one so I suppose someone thought it would be good to mount it there. I guess I could buy a new Horeshoe buoy (looks like they're only £25).

But my feeling is that if I had a MOB (particularly if it was just SWMBO and I onboard) my time and attention would be better spent on keeping an eye on the MOB and getting the boat back to recover them ASAP. I can't see that traipsing around the side decks and across the bow to deploy the horsehoe buoy would be a good idea.

As ever, interested in other people's views.
